Linzertorte is a traditional Austrian dessert considered one of the oldest known cakes in the world. Originating from the city of Linz, its history dates back to at least the 17th century, with some recipes found in manuscripts from the 1600s.
Made with a rich pastry dough flavored with ground nuts and spices, then filled with redcurrant or raspberry jam and topped with a lattice crust, the Linzertorte became a beloved specialty throughout Austria and Central Europe.
